For many of you the last week of Kindergarten brings tears... We feel happiness!! Happiness because we were able to spend every single school day with your child- listening to their stories, watching them have fun and seeing them learn SO MUCH!! We have had a great year and know that the last week will be great too!
We will be finishing up Alphabet Countdown with X, Y and Z. Our Pete the Cat Class Party is Wednesday and Friday is an Early Release Day (Car Riders begin at 11:40).
The blog will go on forever, so when ever you need a refresher of slideshows, or sight words, or Youtube videos... make sure to come back and check it out. :)
So Alphabet Countdown kept us busy... along with TWO picnics!! Plus a Library visit from Mrs Noah Thomas and a Summer Birthday celebration on Friday. haha We jam packed the week!!

Oooh I almost forgot- a HUGE THANK YOU to Mrs. Conner, Mrs. Astorga, Mrs. Jackson and Mrs.McDaniel for showing up to the Sight Word Picnic!!! Your children loved having you there and so did we. :)
Can you believe there are only two weeks left of the school year?!?! It's crazy how quickly it's coming to an end...
This week we have ALPHABET COUNTDOWN for letters S, T, U, V and W. Tuesday we have the Shakespeare Play~ Romeo and Juliet performed by the 4th Grade. (Any students who do not return a form or return their form saying they OPT OUT of watching the play- will go to the Front Office.) Plus we will have the i-Ready Picnic for the students that did not rush through BOTH of the i-Ready Diagnostics. This means they did not receive a yellow or red hand on the Math or Reading Diagnostic. Wednesday I am out all day for a Positive Behavior Training, so Mrs. Croft will have the class. :) No worries... we have the best class in Kindergarten so she will be great!! This also means if you need to get ahold of us--- EMAIL BOTH OF US!! Thursday is our AWARD CEREMONY DAY at 1:00 in the Multi Purpose Room. You may want to get there a little early... if you wait too long to arrive you'll be standing the whole time. We run out of chairs quickly... **You will need to go through the Front Office! After the Ceremony we'll have refreshments in the classroom. Stop by to get some!! OOH Plus we will have a sign out sheet for you to sign your child out early_ We don't want you to have to go back up to the Office and get stuck in a long Check out line. Friday we will have the Sight Word Picnic for the students that read 100 Sight Words or MORE!!!
Don't forget to check your child's folder and backpack daily. We send papers home whether students have their folders or not.
In between all of our testing and rain... we still had Alphabet Countdown and International Day. I think the toughest day was QUIET DAY. Our class is anything but quiet!! They are super chatter boxes. hahaha
We wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone that helped make last week special! :) We received tons of cards, gifts and LOVE. Our Room Mom, Mrs. Conner stopped by every day to bring us presents from the class. :) Not to mention the students... they all showed TONS OF LOVE!!!
We tried to take pictures, but sometimes the treats were just too yummy to hold on too (coffee and chocolates!! haha) and we weren't able to take pictures.

Happy Mother's Day to all the sweet Mom's of Room 41!! We hope you all have a fun relaxing day and enjoy the present that your child made for you. They were all so excited to bring their cards home. :)
This week Alphabet Countdown is going to be BUSY!! Remember we won't post the pictures for it until next weekend. :) Also, Friday is School Color Day so make sure to be sporting YELLOW AND BLUE!!! And Ashari is bringing in Fun Friday Snacks for the class.
ooh and I almost forgot... we have THREE birthdays this week in a row. There's going to be a lot of Happy Birthday singing going on. hahaha
We are in full REVIEW MODE!! We are reviewing all the skills we have taught throughout the year that the students have had trouble with- for Reading it's blending sounds together to read words & sight words and in Math it's rote counting to 100 & discussing the different ways to break apart numbers.
Please continue to review the 4th quarter Expectations Sheet!! The next few grades that go into Gradebook could effect your child's overall grade if they don't do well... and we do not want that to happen!!
i-Ready Testing began last week... Please remind your child not to rush and to listen to what the question is asking.
We had another successful week with ALPHABET COUNTDOWN!! The slideshow is a little long, but it has all the pictures. So watch the whole thing or you'll miss out. :)
This week was GREAT!! The students enjoyed Art, Bubbles and Chalk. I combined all the pictures into one long slideshow. Make sure to stick around and watch the whole thing. The class is too cute!
We have been getting ready for Earth Day in our class!! We planted seeds in orange juice containers and the students planed grass seeds in plastic cat food containers.
Remember... REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE!!

We are starting Monday off with Earth Day Activities and then on Wednesday we are beginning our ALPHABET COUNTDOWN! Wednesday is also an Early Release Day. Friday is Stuffed Animal Day and Zacari will be bringing in Fun Friday Snacks.
Also... Resources were all changed due to Upper Grades Testing! I accidentally wrote uppercase letters on the conduct sheet. hahaha It gave us a good laugh!
Mrs.Croft and I are both wearing shirts for Earth Day. If your child has a shirt, send them to school in it on Monday. We will be checking out the seeds we planted last week, discussing recycling and if weather permits... cleaning the school campus.
A is for ART DAY
(Wednesday)
We are working on our International Craft for Nigeria. Here is a sneak peak of the paper #'s 20-39 painted on Friday for us to use.
B is for Bubbles
Your child is more than welcome to bring in their own bubbles. We have a small supply... but not enough for 39 students.
C is for Chalk
We are looking forward to writing number bonds and sight words outside with sidewalk chalk. Again- we have some... but not a huge supply,
MATH
We are continuing on with subtraction and number bonds. Make sure your child knows the Math signs for addition and subtraction, along with the vocabulary for each.
READING SCIENCE
We are finishing up our lessons on Seasons and then we will be taking a seasons test. Make sure to discuss vocabulary, weather words, clothing, foods eaten and activities that people can do outside for every Season.
SAXON, SIGHT WORDS, BLENDS & Reading SKILLS
Saxon is going to be discussing the double oo. This week students will see that oo can be like oo in tooth or oo in hook. There is no special rule that tells you which way to decide on the sound. The students just sound out the word with both oo sounds and decide which sounds correct.
WRITING
We are going to be finishing the Seasons Writing and they will be collected for a Writing Grade.

On Friday the 13th, there was a Glow in the Dark Dance for the students that raised $50 or more for Jump Rope for Heart. I was lucky enough to be invited to the dance, along with Zoey and Mateo. Together we jump roped, hoola hooped, ate cookies and danced the afternoon away!!

Upper Grade Testing is quickly on it's way and Mrs.Croft was asked to help test. :) So... we will try to keep our day as normal as possible, but we may have to switch our Morning Math with Reading and vice versa. Resources are cancelled on Monday and Tuesday, but they are expected to resume on Wednesday.
Friday is HAT Day and we haven't had anyone sign up for Fun Friday snacks. This Friday or the following Friday. Email us if you are interested in either date. :)
**Reminder: There was no homework last Wednesday and we will not be passing out a packet this Wednesday. We are supporting the Upper Grades and focusing on the 4th Quarter Expectations.**
MATH
We will be completing the Module Test and then information will be coming about our next Module.
READING/SCIENCE
We will be finishing up our work on Seasons. We will also be discussing African Animals and completing two crafts to use for decorations for International Day!! (International Day is May 18. PTA is looking for Volunteers. If you are able to give some of your time, contact them!)

READING SKILLS
Get ready... there's a lot coming our way! Saxon is reviewing the /sh/ sound and moving on to /th/. We tell the students when making this sound they need to stick out their tongue. (If they do not do this, they make an f sound.) Both of these digraphs are coded by underlining them.
Our Sight Words can be found in the slideshow below. Along with the sight word review song from Jack Hartmann.
We are focused on the medial vowel i~ it may be a short sound, but it may also be a long sound. Check out the youtube videos to practice!
And just went you thought there wasn't enough to do... our beginning blend is SM- and our word family is -ING.
WRITING
We are focused on using our Season Charts to write sentences about each season. Students are expected to write sentences on the own detailing the weather, clothing and food people eat during each season.
This is a lengthy process, but we hope to take a few pictures of some writing. :)
We wanted to say thank you to everyone involved in the PTA Program!! From the students that participated to the parents that came and cheered them on... you all made it a great night!
Our Administration and sweet Mrs.Cone dressed up as the Bubble Gum Fairy and visited all of the 3rd Grade classes. The students SMILED so big when Mrs. Cone walked in the rooms and we wanted to share their photo with you. :)
This year our school is not assigning FSA Classroom Buddies, but instead assigning us a Grade Buddy. Kindergarten was assigned to 3rd grade. Tomorrow 3rd grade begins their FSA testing. We made them three beautiful posters and even got to sign our names on one. The kids were so excited to support the "big" 3rd graders.
