S
We hope everyone had a Happy Easter and enjoyed the candy bags that Matthew and his family made. :)
We have a busy week of learning, a play to get ready for and a FIELD TRIP!! And we're going to get it all done!! Make sure to check the weekly conduct sheet or the monthly calendar for Resources.
MATH
We are continuing to focus on Subtraction and Addition. Monday we are reviewing the concept of taking away and getting less with the book Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons. Students will be taking a book of their own to read and practice the math vocabulary. This book can also be used a Challenge book. We are also practicing our addition fluency facts to help us with our subtraction. Please review the following math vocabulary: Subtract, take away, less, difference, equals, and minus.

READING/ SCIENCE :)
We are focusing on plants and seasons. We will be reading books that detail what happens during the season. Along with with the weather, clothing and food that are associated with each season. We will be gathering all of this data/ research as a class.
I can't post the books we will be reading, however I can post the songs we will be listening to- to excite us!! (I had some trouble posting each season video, so here is a compilation of all the months.)
READING SKILLS/ SAXON/ WORD FAMILIES/ SIGHT WORDS/ VOWELS
As i have mentioned week after week.... it's trickier and tricker to list everything here. This is the area that actually teaches the students to read. Reading only teaches comprehension. :)
Saxon is doing a lot with digraphs -ck and qu-. You'll notice your child coding both and doing great!! Due to fourth quarter, our word families are in review with a Jack Hartmann video. We are focusing on e for our vowel. Notice that there is a video for short e and long e!! The long e video will blow the students away a bit... but I'm hoping not too much, considering they know GReeN and TRee both have a double e.
Finally you'll see a video for our sight words. :) Enjoy!!!

WRITING
This will go along with Reading/Science in the place of a Science Journal. We will be detailing how we associate each season with the weather, clothing and food. Look for these journals to be going home in students backpacks when we're done! :)
