We have another busy four day week!! You can find the Resources listed on our weekly conduct sheet and the monthly calendar. :) Wednesday- ALL MONEY and PERMISSION SLIPS for the Zoo must be turned in. We are unable to accept any late papers.
Friday is Stuffed Animal Day, but because the Jags beat the Saints last week... we are including Jags clothing AGAIN!  We have a few students joining the 6-Year-Old Club this week: Ameerah joins on Jan.16. Then Tahlia and Zoey both join on Jan.20.

MATH
We'll be revisiting the strategies we learned in the beginning of the year (circular, scattered and linear configurations). We will be mastering number formations 6-9. Our focus this week is, "Are there enough?" We will complete numerous hands on activities so see if we have enough, or too little or too much! Our vocabulary will be more, less, same, equal, etc.
Practice this at home by having your child set the table. Give them one less fork or one more plate and see how they respond to this problem.

READING
We will be learning about the Native Americans and comparing their way of life to ours today. (This is in preparation for a FREE SURPRISE FIELD TRIP to the JCA!! Permission slips will be going home soon. ) A few of the tribes we will discuss are Lakota Sioux, Wampanog and Lenape. We will discuss their shelter and clothing, how they get food and what they play with.
Here is a introduction to Native Americans with the alphabet. **We will not be testing on this content, but instead using it to help us practice Compare and Contrast.

SIGHT WORDS/ SAXON/ READING SKILLS
Our Sight Words for the Week are part, time, how & or.
Saxon is still coding words and helping us practice reading CVC words. In class we are discussing ending sounds and changing beginning sounds to make new words for word families. Then we are working on coming up with our own rhyming words for a given word. (Fake words or as we like to say "Dr.Seuss Words" will lower your child's rhyming grade. Ex. rake, bake, zake. Zake will only receive half a point.)
The blends we are focusing on this week are cr and gr. Practice them so that your child begins to use them in their writing!

WRITING
We are still working on writing with a partner and we will be discussing lengthening our sentences. Instead of writing I like cake. We will add a flavor to the cake. Add whether it's a birthday cake, oce cream cake, etc.
