This week we will be busy completing Report Card Testing. If you don't remember or never received the First Quarter Expectations, here they are. :)
We have a Resource every day this week except Friday. The Resources are: Monday P.E. (The students all have it together!!), Tuesday #1-17 MUSIC (Biernacki) & #18-34 MUSIC (BROACH), Wednesday #1-17 MUSIC (Broach) & #18-34 MUSIC (Biernacki) and Thursday #1-17 P.E. & #18-34 COMPUTER LAB.
Friday is going to be the BEST!! It is Stuffed Animal Day and Kayden is bringing in Fun Friday Snacks! And... Davarious is joining the Six-Year-Old Club!!
Although we are bombarded by all the 1-1 testing, we will still be getting instruction in. :)
MATH
We are continuing to focus counting objects in groups or formations up to 10. The students have learned about scattered and circular formations when counting. We are working on making a 5-group and then adding more to it. Along with counting objects in different formations students are practicing writing the numbers too.
We are working hard to master counting to 100, counting in groups, and writing numbers 1-10. Please continue to follow up and practice at home.
WRITING
We are still focused on drawing detailed people and settings. The students have improved, but we still expect more! Make sure your child remembers the details on faces... we have had a lot of people missing their ears and necks. Along with lots of stick arms and legs. We remind the students all the time that they have muscles, please do it at home too!
We are also discussing how we can tell a story about our picture and together we are writing simple sentences. When writing the students are expected to write sight words correctly and use their sounds to write the unknown words.
oooh Make sure to practice writing your name. Only the first letter is uppercase, the rest are all lowercase. :)
SAXON/SIGHT WORDS
This week Saxon is focusing on letter P and coding with a breve. They are also brushing on beginning sounds of pictures and using our sounds to write CVC words. (Consonant vowel consonant words). If you haven't seen the rules for a breve written down on your child's Saxon paper... here is the rule=
A vowel followed by a consonant gets a breve and the vowel makes a short sound.
The sight words we are focusing on this week are below in the slideshow. **Students need to read at least 20 sight words this quarter. So make sure to look back at past weekly posts and practice the words in each slideshow. **
READING/ SCIENCE
Due to an abundance of Resources, we have decided to combine Reading and Science this week and focus on the Five Senses!! Each day we will discuss one of the senses and chart what we learned about it using vocabulary from the Duval Reads story. Last week we discussed SIGHT. The students did great!! They were able to share that the eyelid, the eyelashes and the eyebrows protect the eye ball from being harmed. They also shared that the eyeball is a sphere and it's squishy like a gummy bear. Then we informed the students that their tear ducts produce tears and they are located on the insides of the eyes near the nose. (We were so impressed that the students were able to digest and discuss BIG KID INFORMATION!!)
Our goal is to discuss HEARING, SMELL and TASTE this week and figure out what the main topic is of each story. We are also hoping to have some fun discussing these senses while using popcorn. :)
(If you would like to preview or read the story the story to your child, so that you can discuss it with them. Just click the senses words above. The words are all linked to the Duval Reads stories. )
