Week of Sept 5

It may be a four day week, but we are going to be busy learning as if it was a LONG ONE!! :) If you haven't checked out the post on Center Groups, please do. It'll give your child a heads up on who is in their group.
Our Resources for the week are~ Tuesday- ART, Wednesday- MUSIC and Thursday- P.E. (Make sure your child wears sneakers or they may have to sit out during certain party of P.E. for their safety.) Friday is Patriotic Day. Wear as much red, white and blue as possible!! Brendon is bringing in Fun Friday Snacks for the whole class. :)

MATH
This week we are doing more group counting. The students will be counting groups in different types of configurations~ lines, arrays, circular or scattered. Sometimes students have trouble with this concept because they are only used to counting groups in an array. So make sure to practice at home!!  Also, if your child is unable to count the group in their head- MAKE THEM use their pointer finger and count the objects. 1-1 correspondence fixes simple counting mistakes. :)
We will also be discussing "Hidden Partners/ Part of a Group." This is a beginning stage to decomposing numbers. It allows the students to see the whole group, but also a small part of the group.
Here is a short Youtube video for counting groups practice.

WRITING
We are continuing to practice drawing detailed people. The students are getting better every day!! We will discuss different settings we can draw for our people and the clothing to match each setting. The beach~ bathing suits, a snowball fight~ jackets, pants and gloves, their bedroom~ pajamas, etc. Together we will draw and then we will write simple I like or I am at sentences to match the pictures.
Here is a detailed setting video for a house and it's front yard. There is no talking, just simple background music and childhood songs. It allows your child to see that drawing takes time and there are LOTS of things to draw on the house and around it. Plus it's a reminder that everything is NOT the same color. There are a ton of different colors all around!

SAXON/ SIGHT WORDS
Saxon will review how the alphabet is made up of 26 letters, vowels and consonants. We will review all the letters and sounds. Make sure to practice at home so your child can join THE LETTER CLUB & THE SOUND CLUB!! We will focus on the letter Ff and discuss rhyming.
Below is a ton of  Youtube videos and the sight word slideshow!

READING
We will be enjoying a few more Nursery Rhymes and we will end the week with a Fable. :) The Nursery Rhymes are Hickory, Dickory Dock;  Diddle, Diddle Dumpling;  Little Bo Peep;  Little Boy Blue;  Baa, Baa Black Sheep and Humpty Dumpty. Our Fable is The Lion and the Mouse. If you want to read it to your child or check it out yourself CLICK HERE. Also, our standard is asking and answering questions. Here are the ones I've listed for the fable. I divided them by level= LOW: What does the characters? Which one learns a lesson? MODERATE: What happened at the beginning? At the end? How did the lion change? HIGH: Explain what real life lions and mice are like. Why do you think the mouse was willing to help the lion? Why do you think the lion decided to not eat the mouse at the beginning of the story?

SCIENCE
Since we do not have a Resource on Friday, I decided to dedicate some time to Science!! We will discuss the Five Senses and work in our Science Journals.
Here is a catchy Youtube video from Mr.R. He also has individual ones for each of the Five Senses. Check them out!!
